Ivette Mesmar, Sovereign Bank

A passion for helping others and a desire to give direction for bettering themselves to those less fortunate describes what Ivette Mesmar does. Whether she is volunteering at a church kitchen to feed the homeless, being a strong advocate of individuals with special needs or helping bring together a fancy charity event, Ivette involves herself completely.

A native of Panama, Ivette came to the United States in 1987 to earn a degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences. She is a former Lions Club sweetheart who had the opportunity from a young age to be an ambassador of goodwill and listen to the needs of those in the poor communities she visited.

Ivette was a member of The Wichita State University International Students Association where she quickly became involved in her community and was eager to learn more about the country and culture that very quickly became her new home.

In the fall of 1999 Ivette moved to the City of Marlborough with her son, Jose. When she joined the Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce, sponsored by Ann Scott, owner of City Greetings, Ivette was a small business owner. Ivette quickly became involved in the Marlborough community.

As a brain tumor survivor, Ivette experienced what a difference a helping hand or a kind gesture made in her life.

In the summer of 2000 she established a table at the Farmers Market for the sole purpose of bringing awareness to the importance of early detection of Breast Cancer to the Marlborough community. The American Cancer Society was glad to support her by providing her with bilingual literature about this topic.

In the fall of 2001 Ivette attended the Evening of Giving Gala for the first time. She approached Bob Kays and expressed interest in becoming involved with this wonderful event and its worthy cause. Since 2002 Ivette has been the Food Committee Chairperson for both the Evening of Giving and the Mayor’s Charity Ball, becoming an integral part of both fundraisers.

Through the years Ivette has been a part of numerous fundraisers to benefit non-profits, private causes and individuals in need in the City of Marlborough. She also volunteers her time and experience to educate parents of children with autism.

Ivette is currently the Small Business Specialist for Sovereign Bank in Marlborough.
