Capaccio Environmental Engineering, Inc.

Capaccio Environmental Engineering, Inc. (CAPACCIO) is honored to be the 2010 recipient of the Marlborough Chamber of Commerce’s “Green Business Award.” Since our inception in 1992, we have remained steadfast in our mission of “helping industry and the environment prosper.” We make this commitment a reality by working with our clients in Marlborough and throughout the United States to implement and continuously improve their green initiatives. As a company, we strive to minimize our impact on the environment and dedicate our time, expertise and resources to help Marlborough and our surrounding communities.

CAPACCIO is a leading environmental, health and safety consulting and engineering firm located at 293 Boston Post Road West. We are a women-owned small business (WOSB) and a nationally certified women-owned business enterprise (WBENC). For several years, we have assisted Marlborough-based companies Sunovian Pharmaceuticals and Boston Scientific with their environmental programs. We also have an informal partnership with Veolia ES Technical Solutions, and recommend each other’s services when appropriate.

We are an investor and serve on the Water Resources Committee for the 495/Metrowest Partnership, an organization committed to cultivating sustainable growth in the 495/MetroWest region. CAPACCIO recently made a presentation on “Sustainable Water and Energy Use” to provide businesses with ways to use water in a more sustainable manner.

Internally, our company strives to be as green as possible. To save more trees, we purchased a 2-sided printer, which reduced paper consumption by 40%. We purchase recycled paper and utilize soy ink whenever possible. We offer an electronic version of our Enviroline newsletter, and have switched from printed mailers to “eBlasts” to relay information. We use electronic templates instead of paper forms and review our documents electronically. Instead of paper cups, we use mugs from home, recycle bottles and cans, and reuse cardboard boxes and packing materials. Each year, we send holiday cards made from 100% recycled paper and seeds which can be planted. Several years ago, we assessed our energy use, and replaced the old light and ballast system with more efficient lighting. Employees also turn off lighting and computers when not in use, and we hold “electronics waste days” for our employees.

To help people and the environment, our employees dedicate their time to charitable events. CAPACCIO regularly participates in the Run of the Charles canoe race to benefit the Charles River Watershed, as well as Earth Day and the Walk to Cure Cancer. CAPACCIO is also a founding member of the Corporate Wetlands Restoration Partnership, an innovative private-public initiative aimed at preserving, restoring, enhancing and protecting aquatic habitats throughout the United States.

Since 2008, CAPACCIO has helped aspiring engineers through a scholarship with the Marlborough High School. Each year, the Robert S. Capaccio Engineering Scholarship awards $1,500 to a Marlborough student who plans to study engineering. We are also a regular contributor to the Marlborough Police and Fire Associations.

Our commitment to “helping industry and the environment prosper” extends well beyond our customers and employees to include our communities and being an active steward of our environment. We look forward to continued involvement with the City of Marlborough and the Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce.
