It took a slumping economy, and years of double-digit premium increases, before the Legislature opened the door to the group purchasing cooperatives in the summer of 2010. The law allows the formation of up to six cooperatives that collectively can have as many as 85,000 members, roughly 10% of the state’s “small group” market that covers small employers and individuals.

The Mass Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (MACCE) has been approved as one of the cooperatives.

Marlborough Regional Chamber has joined the MACCE small business group purchasing cooperative, which will be offering access to reduced health insurance costs for our small business members. Discussions are in progress with health insurance carriers to offer discounted health plans covering all geographic areas of the state. The Coop will begin enrollment by late spring/early summer.

Participating businesses will be able to take advantage of the Coop discounts by joining the Coop and enrolling in health insurance through their existing broker or Chamber. If a business renews their health insurance in the next couple of months before the Coop enrollment begins, it will be able to immediately switch to the Coop health insurance offering.

Our chamber already offers access to many health insurance programs from a variety of major health insurance companies, and that will continue However, this new health insurance program will be available to any Chamber member with 50 employees or less. Our combined goal is to enroll enough businesses to lower the annual health insurance premiums.

As soon as we get the new plans and details, you will be informed. Soon you will be able to take advantage of this opportunity.
