SUMMARY:Leave No Trace Trainer Course
DESCRIPTION:Become part of a National movement and join us for a weekend of camping and Leave No Trace activities and course work in the outdoors. This course will be given in a backcountry setting so bring a tent and backpack filled with your personal gear as we learn the principles of Leave No Trace and put those lessons into practice. We’ll supply the food and the training materials. All you’ll need is enthusiasm and a desire to want to protect the outdoors\, minimize your “human footprint” on those locations that you plan to visit\, and passion to pass on your knowledge to others. \nThis course is designed to teach both adults and senior Scouts the Leave No Trace and Outdoor Ethics message. You will learn how to plan and prepare for your trip\, take advantage of durable surfaces to camp and hike\, properly dispose of waste\, leave what you find\, minimize the impacts of campfires\, respect wildlife\, and respect others that may travel your path in days to come. Upon completion of the course\, you will gain a deeper understanding of what it takes to protect the outdoors so that others may enjoy it as much you do! In addition\, you will be certified as a Leave No Trace Trainer and empowered to teach others how to protect the resources of the outdoors and share the Leave No Trace message through: \n\nTeaching the BSA Leave No Trace 101 course\nLeading group awareness sessions and workshops\nAssisting individuals working on their BSA Leave No Trace Awareness Card and other outdoor ethics awards.\n\nYouth graduates completing this course will have met the prerequisites to serve as their unit’s Leave No Trace Trainer (a youth leadership position). \nThis course will be of interest to any youth* or adult who is associated with either implementing or training for any BSA outdoor program or for anyone who would like to pass on the knowledge of how to treat the outdoors and protect its beauty for others to enjoy. So\, come and spend the weekend with us filled with comradery\, learning\, and enjoying a unique outdoor classroom while taking a course whose lessons will stay with you for a lifetime.\n*Youth must be at least 14 years old and First Class rank or higher. This spring’s Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) course is Friday through Sunday\, 5/13/16-5/15/16 (pre-course meeting on 5/4/16). \nIOLS presents all the basic skills you need to teach your Scouts through First Class and provides tips for teaching those skills in a patrol setting. DESCRIPTION:Will you be hiking\, camping or participating in Scouting activities? Does your job keep you outdoors? Will you be taking your troop to a National High Adventure Base? If so\, the Wilderness First Aid Course can teach you how to respond to an emergency if you are in an area where help may be delayed in reaching you. \n\nThe Wilderness First Aid course includes training on what to do in the case of:\nHead (Brain)\, Neck and Spinal Injuries\nHeat-Related Emergencies\nHypothermia\nAltitude-Related Illnesses\nAllergies and Anaphylaxis\nBurns\nBone and Joint Injuries\nWounds and Wound Infection\n\nImmediate care can help save lives and prevent serious injuries. \nThe course is based on the Boy Scouts of America’s “Wilderness First Aid Curriculum and Doctrine Guidelines” and has been reviewed and/or supported by the American Camp Association\, American Canoe Association\, National Recreation and Park Association\, and JCC Association. Wilderness and Remote First Aid also offers enhanced content and topics to meet OSHA’s Best Practices for Workplace First Aid Training Programs. \nCourse participants must be at least 14 years of age and possess current certification in Adult and Pediatric Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). \nPlease come dressed appropriately for the weather\, some of the instruction may take place outdoors. \nThis is not an overnight event. The training will take place from 8;30am to 4:30pm on Saturday and Sunday from 8:30am to 3:30pm. You must attend both days to complete the course. \nThe course will take place in White Lodge at Nobscot Scout Reservation. \nImportant Note: WFA Participant manuals and skill sheets will be mailed to the address provided during registration. Participants are expected to review this material prior to the course. \nRegister here
