Free Creative Shakespeare Workshop for Grade 10 – College
The River’s Edge At Alliance is proud to announce an exciting new opportunity for students in Grades 10 – College. Join us on April 29th from 7-9 pm at Hudson High School for a FREE Billy Shake’s Workshop – How To Make Shakespeare Fun! Did you know that Shakespeare was one of the first rap artists? Did you know that the phrase “puppy-dog” was invented by Shakespeare? Did you know that Shakespeare is considered a master of language but was raised in a completely illiterate family? There’s so much you don’t know about Billy Shakes… but you should.
The Young Adult Billy Shakes Summer Project is a new addition to our Summer Drama Workshop program. Over the course of this two-week creative workshop, high-school and college aged students will have the opportunity to create an original piece of theater inspired by Shakespeare. With a staged reading at the end of the program, students will develop, write and create their own work, based on their own talents, passions and abilities. While Shakespeare will absolutely be explored over the session, it will be a spring-board for modern theatrical creativity. What the final product becomes is up to you. It could be a musical, it could be a drama. It could be a comedy, it could be a tragedy. It could be nothing, it could change the world. If you can rap, play an instrument, write songs or poetry – if you do anything creative – we want you! We’ll teach you about Shakespeare and his influence over the modern world and theater, you bring the ideas.
Young Adult Summer Session I begins on July 5th and ends with a performance on July 15th. Young Adult Summer Session II begins on July 18th and ends with a performance on July 29th. Both sessions run Monday – Thursday from 6:30 – 9:30 pm at Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School. Non-Family Member Price is $200 for each session of $350 if you do both. See more info at upwitharts.org.
Join us on April 29th at Hudson High School to see what all the hype is about! Anyone interested in making Shakespeare fun can attend and get a glimpse of what your summer could look like. RSVP at upwitharts.org.
